When people book on Louisa’s Walk and ask us how best to get to South Hobart, we often recommend the Hobart Rivulet Walk. To our shame we had never done the Rivulet Walk in its entirety. Yesterday, we remedied that as Chris and I had a day off together – we packed a picnic and enjoyed this beautiful Walk which starts from the car park in Molle Street and follows the Hobart Rivulet up to the Cascade Brewery. It takes around forty minutes.
Much to our audience’s delight, we sometimes see a platypus on the way back from Louisa’s Walk in the flood mitigation device at the bottom of the Cascade Gardens. But never very close up……………………………..
Imagine our excitement when we spotted one in the Rivulet yesterday, well below the Cascades Female Factory, at a point where I was able to get up within a metre (I trod so quietly!).
I was so close I could see the feathery pattern on his back, he looked up at me from time to time. I stayed as still as a post and breathed this “thank you” moment.
