It’s been about as cold and wet as it gets in Hobart over the last few days but, with 19 stoic souls ready and waiting to do Louisa’s Walk yesterday we had a decision to make. To go ahead or not?
As Tasmania’s weather pattern can be remarkably changeable (if you don’t like the weather come back in half-an-hour!) we have a policy of meeting everyone at our start point at the Cascade Brewery at 1.50 p.m and making our decision then. Yesterday’s pattern had been squally but with good windows of clear weather in- between.
Seventeen of our potential audience turned up and, as I handed out umbrellas, I heard comments like “Well, we’ve only got today and we couldn’t miss the Show!”.
We set off in pouring rain – the rain cleared and only re-appeared in short showers.
Two hours later as we returned to our start point damp and more than a little cold we had had more than a glimpse of what life was like for those convict women of long ago.
